To become a Certified Consultant Pharmacist (CCP), the pharmacist must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education credits  by the NJ Board of Pharmacy or ACPE credits. These credits must be completed within12 months prior to the completion of a certification examination. The examination consists of questions related to Federal and State regulations, and tests the applicant’s knowledge of various clinical situations that may be encountered while working as a consultant pharmacist.  A special series of consultant pharmacist lectures are often available for individuals seeking to increase or expand their knowledge of regulations and clinical situations that are relevant to the types of health care systems served.  These lectures may be offered by Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey ,Fairleigh Dickinson University ,the New Jersey Pharmacists Association or the New Jersey Academy of Consultant Pharmacists other Health Care Organizations ,other Schools of Pharmacy or Individuals.  Recent pharmacy graduates are exempt from the continuing education requirement if they apply within 12 months of graduation.

CERTIFICATION

• Eligibility – Any person holding a current valid pharmacist license issued by a State Board of Pharmacy shall be eligible to apply for certification.

• Requirements

•        Applicants must certify that they have successfully completed a total of twenty-four (24) Continuing Education (CE) credits.  Such credits must be obtained in the twelve (12) months prior to examination.  CE credits used for licensure by a State Board of Pharmacy or the American College of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved credits will be accepted for certification.  However; all applicants should bring documentation showing successful completion of a total of twenty-four (24) Continuing Education (CE) credits to the exam. 

• Recent graduates of an accredited pharmacy college shall be deemed to have received 24 CE credits, if the application is submitted within 12 months of graduation.

• Applicants must successfully complete an examination, by a score of 75% or greater, given by the Joint Board for Certification of Consultant Pharmacists.  The examination will consist of multiple choice sections addressing the clinical, legal and procedural aspects of consultant pharmacy services.

•   Applicants who fail the examination may be allowed to retake the section(s) failed three times within two years.  If the applicant still fails, he/she must submit an active plan of study to the Board. Requirements for re-examination shall include a non-refundable fee of $125.00 each time. 

• Fee and entry to examination

• The applicant shall submit a non-refundable fee of $125.00  made out to NJCCP with an application at least (7) days prior to the exam date, unless given special permission by the executive Director.  Entry to the exam shall be allowed only upon presentation of a letter from this Board stating eligibility, a current valid registered pharmacist license and a current valid government photo identification.

• Term

The initial certification shall expire on the last day of April of the first odd-numbered year following the examination year.
